Installation
This guide walks you through installing and activating Divi Handoff on your WordPress site.
Prerequisites and Versions
Before installing Divi Handoff, ensure your site meets these requirements:

Custom Fields Plugin Requirement
Divi Handoff requires one of the following custom fields plugins:
- Secure Custom Fields (SCF) — Free plugin that includes Flexible Content
- Advanced Custom Fields Pro (ACF Pro) — Paid plugin with Flexible Content
The free version of Advanced Custom Fields does not include Flexible Content and is not compatible with Divi Handoff. Use SCF (free) or upgrade to ACF Pro.
Download and Install
Step 1: Download the Plugin
- Log in to your Divi Engine account
- Navigate to Downloads
- Download the latest version of Divi Handoff
Step 2: Install the Plugin
- In your WordPress admin, go to Plugins → Add New
- Click Upload Plugin
- Click Choose File and select the downloaded
divi-handoff.zipfile - Click Install Now
- Wait for the installation to complete
Step 3: Activate the Plugin
- Click Activate Plugin
- If SCF or ACF Pro is not installed, you'll see an admin notice prompting you to install one
- If Divi Theme is not active, you'll see an admin notice to activate it
License Activation
After activation, activate your license to receive updates and support:
- Go to Divi Engine → Divi Handoff in the WordPress admin menu
- Navigate to the License tab
- Enter your license key from your Divi Engine account
- Click Activate License
- Verify the license status shows Active
Your license key is available in your Divi Engine account under License Keys. Each purchase includes a unique license key.
Verify Installation
After successful installation and activation, verify everything is working:
Check 1: Admin Menu
Look for Divi Handoff Layouts in the WordPress admin menu. This is where you'll create layouts that render your Flexible Content.
Check 2: Settings Page
Navigate to Divi Engine → Divi Handoff. You should see the settings page with tabs for:
- General — Page display settings
- User Permissions — Role-based access control
- Sidebar — Sidebar position and widgets
- Layout Injection — Inject Divi layouts at specific positions
- Help & Demo — Documentation link and demo content import
Check 3: No Admin Notices
Ensure there are no error notices about missing dependencies. If you see notices:
- "Divi Handoff requires Secure Custom Fields or Advanced Custom Fields Pro to be installed and activated. You can download SCF or ACF Pro here." — Install and activate SCF or ACF Pro (the notice includes links to download)
- "Divi Handoff requires Divi Theme to be installed and active" — Activate the Divi Theme
Quick Setup with Demo Content
Get started quickly by importing demo content:
- Go to Divi Engine → Divi Handoff
- Click the Help & Demo tab
- Click Import Demo Content
The demo imports:
- 1 SCF/ACF Field Group — A page field group with Flexible Content
- 8 Divi Handoff Layouts — Pre-built layout templates
- 1 Demo Page — A page with sample content to explore
This provides a working example to help you understand how Divi Handoff connects Flexible Content with Divi layouts.

Troubleshooting Installation
Plugin Won't Activate
Cause: Missing dependencies (Divi 5 or SCF/ACF Pro)
Solution:
- Ensure Divi Theme (version 5.x) is installed and active
- Install and activate SCF or ACF Pro
- Try activating Divi Handoff again
License Won't Activate
Cause: Invalid or already-used license key
Solution:
- Verify the license key is copied correctly (no extra spaces)
- Check your Divi Engine account for the correct license key
- Deactivate the license on other sites if you've reached the activation limit
Divi Handoff Layouts Menu Missing
Cause: Plugin not fully activated or dependency missing
Solution:
- Deactivate and reactivate the plugin
- Check for PHP errors in Tools → Site Health
- Verify all dependencies are installed and active
