Configuring Payment Gateways
Introduction
Setting up payment gateways is how you take payment for a plan. Divi Membership supports Stripe, PayPal, and bank transfer. WooCommerce checkout is available when WooCommerce is active. Configure gateways in Divi Engine → Divi Membership → Payment Gateways.
Access Payment Gateway Settings
- In WordPress, go to Divi Engine → Divi Membership.
- Open Payment Gateways.
You can enable Stripe, PayPal, bank transfer, or WooCommerce (when WooCommerce is active). Visitors see the methods you turn on during registration and signup.
Enable Payment Methods and Currency
- Enable PayPal, Stripe, Bank transfer, or WooCommerce by checking the corresponding boxes.
- Set the currency you accept for membership fees so it matches your business and audience.
Configure PayPal
- Test mode — Enable PayPal test mode during development to simulate transactions safely.
- API credentials — Enter your PayPal API credentials. See the PayPal Developer Site for how to obtain them.
- Webhook URL — Use the webhook URL shown on the settings page (e.g.
yourdomain.com/?payment_webhook=paypal). Subscribe to the required events on the PayPal Developer Webhooks page.
Configure Stripe
- API keys — Enter your Stripe Test or Live API keys from the Stripe Dashboard → API Keys.
- Stripe v3 vs Legacy — By default, Divi Membership uses Stripe v3 (Stripe Elements; multiple payment methods; no billing address unless you enable Stripe Legacy (v2)). In Payment Gateways, use Enable Stripe Legacy Mode if you need the older flow and billing address collection.
- Webhook URL — Add
https://yoursite.com/?payment_webhook=stripein Stripe Dashboard → Webhooks. - Signing secret — Open that endpoint in Stripe, reveal its signing secret (
whsec_…), and save it in Webhook Signing Secret. Divi Membership rejects webhook events that do not pass signature verification.
Stripe webhook events used by Divi Membership:
invoice.payment_succeededcharge.refundedcustomer.subscription.deleted
Bank transfer
- Enable Bank transfer.
- Set Checkout label and Payment instructions.
- Save. Members who choose this method do not get access until you mark the subscription paid.
Validate Payment Gateway API Keys only appears when Stripe or PayPal is enabled.
WooCommerce
WooCommerce checkout is available when WooCommerce is active. Members pay with the methods already turned on in your shop, such as WooCommerce Payments, Mollie, Square, or WooCommerce bank transfer.
- In WooCommerce → Settings → Payments, enable the shop payment methods you want members to use.
- In Divi Engine → Divi Membership → Payment Gateways, enable WooCommerce. The WooCommerce checkout tab explains the flow. It has no API keys.
- Open each membership plan, go to the WooCommerce tab, and enter a product ID for each billing cycle. One-time cycles use a simple or virtual product. Recurring cycles need WooCommerce Subscriptions and a subscription product.
- Save. On Registration Form and Signup Form, members can choose WooCommerce and finish payment on the store checkout.
Shop discounts and members-only products are set on the same plan tab and keep working when the gateway is off. See WooCommerce.
Save and Test
- Click Save at the bottom of the Payment Gateways section.
- Run a test checkout for each method you enabled. For WooCommerce, confirm the linked product is added to the cart and that the shop’s payment methods appear.
