Adding a Membership Plan
Introduction
To manage access to content on your Divi-powered website, create a structured membership plan. This guide walks you through setting up a plan in Divi Membership: basic setup, billing cycles, and content access rules.
Add a Membership Plan
- In WordPress, go to Divi Membership → Memberships.
- Click Add New Membership.
Adding or editing a plan opens the membership editor in a full window. Membership name and Save membership are in that window. Close full window returns to the compact editor, where the same tabs remain available.
Configure Your Membership Plan
Membership name
Enter a clear Membership name, such as Beginner, Basic, Standard, or Pro. The editor does not have a separate plan description. Describe each price on its billing cycle, and list benefits on the Features tab.
Billing
Open the Billing tab. Each cycle header shows a plain-English summary, such as “14 days free, then £29 / month”.
- Click Add billing cycle and enter a Title. Saving is blocked until every cycle has a title.
- Set Type to Recurring, One-time, or Free. For a recurring cycle, set Billing period to Every plus a count and a unit, such as every 1 month. Free cycles hide the price.
- Enter the Price. The field shows your store currency. Sale price (optional) replaces the regular price when it is set.
- On a recurring cycle, Free trial reveals Trial length. Collect payment details at signup controls whether a card is required during the trial.
- Open More options for the cycle Description and Display format. Display format overrides the text after the price on registration and signup forms. Leave it empty to use the billing period.
For a One-time cycle, Access length controls how long access lasts after the payment. Leave it empty for lifetime access, or set a period when the one-time purchase should expire.
Allow members to choose their amount lets the member pick a price at checkout:
- Minimum — Lowest amount, greater than zero.
- Maximum — At least the minimum.
- Suggested amount — The amount shown by default. It can sit anywhere between the minimum and maximum.
- Preset buttons — Optional amounts, comma-separated (for example
10, 25, 50). Members can still type another amount in range with Other.
Sale price is hidden while custom amount is on. The order summary on Registration Form and Signup Form updates when they pick a preset or type an amount.
Options
Membership badge, Login redirect URL, and Allow members to switch to this plan are on the Options tab. The badge name is what User Item and User List can show. Login redirect URL sends members of this plan to that address after they log in. Leave it empty to use the redirect configured on the Login module. When plan switching is off, this plan does not appear in the switch-plan window. Members already on the plan can still switch away from it.
Members
The Members tab lets you select existing WordPress users for this plan. Selecting users alone does not create subscription records. Add a free billing cycle, save the plan, then use Create Free Subscriptions for the selected users. For migrations, large groups, or already-paid members, use Bulk Assign instead.
Access
Open the Access tab. A new plan starts with All selected, so members can see every item of the post types you enabled until you narrow the rules.
- Each Content rule has a Type and a Title.
- Type lists post types and taxonomies from the post types selected under Enabled Post Types at Divi Engine → Divi Membership → General.
- Leave Title as All, or search for specific posts, pages, or terms. Use Add content rule for another rule.
WooCommerce
When WooCommerce is active, the plan has a WooCommerce tab for shop discounts, members-only products, and checkout product IDs. See WooCommerce.
Features
Use the Features tab to add the title and description of each benefit included in the plan. These entries are available to Membership Item as a feature table or custom feature-loop layout.
Finalize Your Membership Plan
- Review the cycle summaries.
- Click Save membership.
Additional Tips
- Clear communication — Use clear titles and descriptions so members know what they get with their subscription.
- Flexible billing — Offering multiple billing cycles (e.g. monthly and yearly) caters to a broader audience.
- Strategic content access — Plan which content is available at each level to maintain exclusivity and value.
- Regular updates — Keep plans and features up to date so offerings stay appealing.
Always save your settings before moving to the next configuration step to avoid losing changes.
What's Next
- Managing content restriction design — How restricted content appears for non-members.
- Configuring payment gateways — Set up Stripe, PayPal, bank transfer, and WooCommerce checkout.
