Signature Field

Purpose

The Signature field type renders a signature pad (canvas) where users can draw a signature. You can set pen color, background color, and a clear button with icon.

When to use

  • Consent forms, contracts, or any form that requires a drawn signature.

Key settings

  • Field — Field Type: signature, Field Title.
  • Signature — Signature Pen Color, Signature Background, Signature Clear (on/off), Signature Clear Icon and position/size/color.
  • Validation — Required (if the signature must not be empty).
  • Layout — Sizing (width/height) affects canvas size; label/description as needed.

Top features to configure

  • Pen and background colors — Use high contrast so signatures are visible and readable.
  • Clear signature button — Let users quickly redraw without refreshing the page.
  • Clear button icon styling — Match icon color/size to the rest of the form design.
  • Canvas sizing — Increase width/height for better signing on mobile.
  • Required signature — Enable when signatures are legally or operationally required.

Validation behavior

  • Required prevents submission when the signature pad is empty.
  • Signature value is captured from the canvas, so users should be able to clear and redraw.
  • Very small canvas sizes can make signatures hard to complete accurately.

Common mistakes

  • Enabling required signature without clear instructions for users.
  • Using a low-contrast pen/background color combination.
  • Not testing signature behavior on touch devices.

Verify it works

  1. Submit with an empty signature when required and confirm validation.
  2. Draw, clear, redraw, and submit to confirm the final signature is saved.
  3. Test on desktop and mobile/tablet for touch input behavior.
