Configuring Payment Gateways

Introduction

Setting up payment gateways is essential for launching your Divi Membership site. Divi Membership supports Stripe (v3 with Elements and multiple payment methods, or optional Legacy v2 mode) and PayPal. Configure everything in Divi Membership → Settings → Payment Gateways.

Access Payment Gateway Settings

  1. In your WordPress dashboard, go to Divi Membership → Settings.
  2. Open the Payment Gateways section to configure Stripe and PayPal.

You can enable PayPal, Stripe, or both; users will see their options during signup.

Enable Payment Methods and Currency

  1. Enable PayPal, Stripe, or both by checking the corresponding boxes.
  2. Set the currency you accept for membership fees so it matches your business and audience.

Configure PayPal

  1. Test mode — Enable PayPal test mode during development to simulate transactions safely.
  2. API credentials — Enter your PayPal API credentials. See the PayPal Developer Site for how to obtain them.
  3. Webhook URL — Use the webhook URL shown on the settings page (e.g. yourdomain.com/?payment_webhook=paypal). Subscribe to the required events on the PayPal Developer Webhooks page.

Configure Stripe

  1. API keys — Enter your Stripe Test or Live API keys from the Stripe Dashboard → API Keys.
  2. Stripe v3 vs Legacy — By default, Divi Membership uses Stripe v3 (Stripe Elements; multiple payment methods; no billing address unless you enable Stripe Legacy (v2)). In Payment Gateways, use Enable Stripe Legacy Mode if you need the older flow and billing address collection.
  3. Webhook URL — Use the URL shown (e.g. yourdomain.com/?payment_webhook=stripe) and add it in Stripe Dashboard → Webhooks.

Stripe webhook events used by Divi Membership:

  • invoice.payment_succeeded
  • charge.refunded
  • customer.subscription.deleted

Save and Test

  1. Click Save at the bottom of the Payment Gateways section.
  2. Run test transactions to confirm PayPal and Stripe communicate correctly with your site.

Additional Tips

  1. Security — Keep payment integrations updated and compliant with current security standards.
  2. User experience — Keep the payment flow simple and transparent to reduce abandonment.
  3. Support — Provide clear instructions or support for users who have payment issues.
tip

Always save your settings before moving to the next configuration step to avoid losing changes.
