Messages

Divi 5

Acc Messages and Acc Message Button are Divi 5 modules. Message settings are the same on Divi 5 and Divi 4.

Members can message the owner of a listing from the listing page, and message each other from a profile or from the account inbox. Both kinds of conversation use the same inbox.

Messaging stays off until you turn it on. The Messages account page, its menu item, and Account → Messages in WordPress admin stay hidden until then.

Turn on notifications as well if a new message should appear in the notification list. The new-message email is separate and is on by default once messaging is on.

Turn messaging on

  1. Go to Divi Engine > Divi Machine Account > Messages.
  2. Turn on Enable messaging.
  3. Leave Allow listing messages and Allow member-to-member messages on, or turn off the one you do not want.
  4. Under Listing post types, leave every type unchecked to allow all public post types. Check types only when listing messages should be limited.
  5. Leave Block listed words on. Add words or phrases, one per line, in any language. A blank box keeps the English starter list. Saving your own list replaces that list.
  6. Leave Also use WordPress disallowed comment keys on if comment blocks should apply to messages too.
  7. Set the length limit and the send limits if the defaults are too high or too low.
  8. Leave Email on new message on, and edit the Email tab if you want your own subject and message.
  9. Save.

A blocked message is not sent. The sender is told it is not allowed. The blocked word is not shown back to them.

Show the inbox

Activation already places Acc Messages on the Messages account post.

  1. Open Account > Messages > Edit with Divi.
  2. Confirm Acc Messages.
  3. Change button labels if you need to. Each button can also have its own style on the Design tab.
  4. Save, turn messaging on, and open the account area while logged in.

From New message, choosing a member opens the conversation with the reply box ready. If they already talk, that conversation opens.

Members can archive a conversation or block someone. A member who turned off Visible to other members on their profile cannot be found for a new conversation. Existing conversations stay open.

Let visitors start a conversation

  1. Edit the listing template, or a profile or author template.
  2. Add Acc Message Button.
  3. Set Recipient to Listing author on a listing, or Member on this page on a profile.
  4. Save.

A logged-out visitor is sent to the account login, then back to the page. A member cannot message their own listing.

Module reference: Acc Message Button.

Review conversations

When messaging is on, open Account > Messages in WordPress admin. That screen is for the site owner. It stays hidden while messaging is off.

What's next

  • Notifications — On-site notice for a new message.
  • Profile — The visibility checkbox that hides a member from new messages.
